AMLS Division Program Report-July/August 2002 by Linda Abrahamson,EMT-P,RN,Committee Chair (posted July 22nd, 2002)
We start with a personnel change: AMLS Medical Director Deb Funk, MD,NREMT-P, has resigned in order to spend more time with her family. She will remain active until another medical director is appointed.
In the meantime, AMLS continues to grow with new courses to be held this summer in Missouri and Florida. Brian Byers is the course coordinator and will be hosting a provider/instructor course in St.Louis; the Florida provider/instructor course will be led by course coordinator Orlando J. Dominguez, Jr. Internationally, we are working to offer AMLS in the United Kingdom, Mexico and Ireland, where our EMS colleagues have shown interest in our training.
The first revision of the AMLS textbook will be completed in the fall. The Instructor Manual also is being revised. New additions to the Instructor Manual will include instructor notes for each of the provider course slide presentations. Each session will be case-based, allowing for more interactive discussion. Come to the annual conference October 1-5 in Nashville to see all of these improved materials from brady Prentice-Hall.
Also being revised are the slides for the two-day provider course. Currently, Affiliate Faculty may obtain slides on CD from the NAEMT office. Affiliate Faculty will receive updated CDs when the revisions are complete.
Look for new exciting information to be posted on our Website. Mary-Ann Clarkes of Edmonton, Canada is working with the AMLS Executive Committee on a more global look to our Website. Course listings and course coordinator contact information will be available on-line.
Finally, a memo will be sent to Course Coordinators/Affiliate Faculty this fall outlining policy and procedure changes that may impact course coordinators. Please contact NAEMT Headquarters at 1.800.34.NAEMT if you have changed your email or postal address.

AMLS Division Program Report-March/April 2002, by Linda Abrahamson,EMT-P,RN,Committee Chair (posted May 1st, 2002)
AMLS Grows: NAEMT launched the Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) course in October 1999. This year, it will surpass the 5,000 student enrollment mark, with courses in 27 states and five foreign countries.
Educators on the forefront of the national EMS education agenda have been successful in promoting diagnosis-based curricula. AMLS, NAEMT's two-day, 16-hour continuing education course in Advanced Medical Life Support, uses this assessment-based approach to teach students about the most challenging medical conditions faced by health care providers. AMLS teaches students to use scene size-up, patient history and physical exam to systematically analyze patient complaints and develop a differential diagnosis and treatment plan. CE hours obtained by passing the course are recognized by National Registry and CECBEMS.
Call Keshia Sheppard at the NAEMT office at (800) 34-NAEMT or visit our website at http://www.amls.org/ for course availability.
