Military Notes:

Sent via email, from Joe Kelly - February 27th, 2006:

Greetings Linda, Keshia & the AMLS EC!

I wanted to give you an update on our training site at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey. We began our quest in 2001 with investigation and group of us from the base attended an AMLS course in Elizabeth, NJ March 2002. We had a bit of exciting the night before the class in the parking lot of our hotel when we discovered a person in cardiac arrest and began BLS\CPR until EMS arrived. We assisted teaching a few classes that summer and in October 2002 we conducted our first AMLS  Provider & Instructor Courses on base. To our knowledge this was the first AMLS program conducted in the US military. Our next course was not for a year later because of deployments related to Operation Enduring and Iraq Freedom. Since then we have trained 108 AMLS students during 7 Provider courses over the following 3 years. We also trained 49 Instructor Candidates during 7 Instructor Workshops and assisted in 2 training sites starting AMLS programs. Both military and civilian students have come from all over the country to attend our courses. Our program runs two and half days starting Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. The extra time allows for more practical skills stations, lecture, and discussion time. In addition to AMLS we conduct PHTLS, PPC, ACLS, and NREMT courses during the year on base. Our new 5000 Sq.Ft. training facility is almost completed and we should be teaching classes there by FY07 which starts this October.

Attached to this email is a group picture of the students and instructions along with a picture from a skills station. If you have any questions please let me know!

Thank you and have a great day!

Joe
