NAEMT will hold a special election to fill the open positions created as a result of changes to the NAEMT Bylaws voted in by members last August. Active members will vote to fill the following positions:
- One director for Region III. Term of office: May 2008 to October 2009.
- Two directors for Region IV. Term of office for the candidate that receives the most votes: May 2008 to October 2009. Term of office for the candidate that receives the second most votes: May 2008 to October 2008.
- One at-large director. Term of office: May 2008 to October 2009.
New Regions
Following are the regions established by NAEMT (click here for a map showing the regions):
Region I, Northeast United States: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Region II, Southeast United States, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Kentucky, and the District of Columbia.
Region III, Northwest and Midwest United States: Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Missouri.
Region IV, Southwest United States and U.S. Territories in the Pacific: California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Hawaii, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas.
Nomination Instuctions
Candidates interested in running for office during the upcoming NAEMT special election can submit nomination materials from March 3 until March 31, 2008. Prospective candidates must be active members in good standing of the association who are certified as an emergency medical technician by one of the states of the United States of America, in their country, or are duly registered as an EMT by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, Inc.
Candidates will need to submit the following information to NAEMT headquarters no later than March 31, 2008, in print or in electronic format to Nominations@naemt.org:
- A candidacy statement: This 500-word document should include the position being sought, why the candidate is seeking the position, what the candidate’s goals will be if elected, the key challenges and opportunities that the candidate believes that NAEMT and EMS are facing, how the candidate believes that the association should address these issues, and why the candidate is the best person to fill this position.
- Background information: This should include educational and professional accomplishments, recognition and any other relevant information for the position being sought.
- Nomination letter: Each candidate needs to have a nomination letter from another active NAEMT member.

- User name is your NAEMT member ID number
- Password is your first initial and last name (no spaces)
All active members of NAEMT are eligible to vote electronically in the special election. Voting will begin at midnight EST on April 14, 2008, and end at midnight EST on April 27, 2008. An active member is defined in the NAEMT bylaws as a dues-paying member who is certified as an emergency medical technician or a first responder.
