The 6th Edition

The new 6th edition texts and materials will be available in September 2006.  The Rollout to introduce the next texts and materials is taking place as part of the EMS Expo conference in Las Vegas [PHTLS Rollout].



What is new to the 6th edition text?
There are 7 new chapters on burns, wilderness trauma, tactical considerations, weapons of mass descruction, triage and disaster managment, and environmental traumas.  The text also includes a skills video and pda content, as before, along with 8 new laminated quick-reference cards. A completely new PHTLS Programme (version 2.0), Instructor Manual and ancillaries is also being released with the 6th edition text.  These materials will be available to all participants who take part in an Instructor update and/or Instructor Course.

When can I begin using the new 6th Edition Materials?
The new edition materials may be used by any Instructor/Coordinator whom has attended a 6th edition Instructor Update. Go to the Programs page for current offerings.

What is included in the 6th edition Instructor Update?
The 6th Edition Instructor Update is an 8 hour workshop designed to orient current Instructors, Coordinators and Affiliates to all aspects of the 6th edition materials, new program formats and administrative changes. The changes made within the 6th edition are significant and a "Compendium of Changes" to the text will be included in the workshop materials.

As with all PHTLS meetings and events, input from all stakeholders is extremely important to the direction of the PHTLS programs. Please utilize this forum to lend your experience and ideas.

 Is there also a 6th edition Military Text available?

Yes!  The new Military version Text is also being released in 2006.  This text is engineered specifically to accomodate military applications with twelve new chapters and including nine military medicine chapters written by the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care.
