Johnson Tapped for DHS Secretary
Oct 18, 2013
Today, President Obama nominated Jeh Johnson to serve as the next secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Mr. Johnson most recently served as general counsel for the Department of Defense from 2009 to 2012. In this post, he was responsible for legal work associated with high-profile issues such as the intervention in Libya. Noting that he was known for his "sound judgment and counsel," the White House said, "The president is selecting Johnson because he is one the most highly qualified and respected national security leaders."
Once confirmed, Mr. Johnson will take over from Rand Beers, who has led the department since the departure of former Secretary Janet Napolitano in September 2013.
