The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation recently launched the first comprehensive pediatric concussion guidelines. A panel of more than 30 experts from Canada and the U.S., including family practitioners, emergency medicine clinicians, and neurologists, developed the guidelines. The guidelines offer recommendations according to a concussion "timeline": preparticipation screening, management of acute symptoms, discharge, interim assessment, and re-assessment after 1 month. A useful step-by-step approach is offered for each phase of management." These guidelines are exceedingly clear and comprehensive,"said a Boston pediatrician who served as an external reviewer of the guidelines. "I think this will be an indispensable resource for caregivers in a wide range of care settings, and also be accessible for the general public."
