Recent shortages of multiple medications frequently used in the care of critically ill patients (e.g., sodium bicarbonate, calcium gluconate and carbonate, atropine, epinephrine and D50, and other drugs available as pre-filled syringes) have challenged hospitals and EMS systems. This lack of availability constitutes a significant risk to patients, and according to the manufacturer, it will be months until significant production resumes.
