| The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), founded in 1975, with support from the National Registry of EMTs and numerous leaders in emergency medicine, serves as the national voice for prehospital emergency health care professionals. Association leadership and membership is comprised mostly of EMTs, Paramedics and EMS educators and administrators. In addition, throughout NAEMT's history, representatives from the emergency/ trauma physician community, as well as emergency and aeromedical nurses, have served in both leadership and general membership positions.
The NAEMT's prime mission is to promote the professional status of the EMT, Paramedic, EMS Educator and EMS Administrator. NAEMT also encourages the development of national standards and accreditation of EMS education, develops continuing education programs for members and non-members, supports legislative initiatives, and produces career information for the public and EMS community.
NAEMT has developed ongoing liaison relationships with over 28 federal agencies and professional organizations serving the emergency/trauma medicine and public safety community. The American College of Emergency Physicians, National Registry of EMTs, Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services, Emergency Nurse's Association, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are a few of these liaison organizations.
The mission of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians is to represent and serve Emergency Medical Services personnel through advocacy, educational programs and research. |
The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) provides registration services to EMS providers from across the nation. The NREMT is a non-profit, non-governmental, free standing agency. The NREMT does not provide services such as educational conferences, EMS issue identification and endorsement, collective bargaining services, job placement, lobbying, educational materials or other association type services. The NREMT verifies through a system of registration and reregistration competency of providers to safely and effectively practice. The NREMT's policies are developed by a Board of Directors comprising many national EMS organizations. NREMT registers EMS providers at four levels: First Responder, EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and EMT-Paramedic.
The NREMT's registration services are part of the licensure process for EMT's in 39 states. The Registry works closely or directly with State Offices of Emergency Medical Services in all 50 states to accomplish their mission. The most visible function of the NREMT is examination development and administration. Using a psychometrically sound and legally defensible process, the NREMT exerts great efforts to assure examinations are fair to both the public and the candidate. The NREMT stresses cost effectiveness, mission direction and information in development of policies, procedures, and methods. The Registry takes very seriously its responsibility to help protect the public by identifying EMS providers who can safely and effectively practice.
If you wish information about verifying your competency in relationship to meeting the national standards, you should contact the NREMT at 614-888-4484. Click here to acess the NREMT home page. |
