Adopted June 9, 2006
The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) encourages volunteer and career EMTs and Paramedics to maintain a professional demeanor and exhibit professional standards of behavior at all times while on and off duty.
NAEMT strongly objects to the fictional or real portrayals of EMTs and Paramedics exhibiting any non-professional behaviors, including but not limited to:
• Sloppy or inappropriate dress;
• Verbal abuse and unseemly language;
• Substance abuse;
• Mistreatment of patients, colleagues or others.
NOTE: NAEMT members are encouraged to incorporate this statement in response to situations in which they feel that EMS workers are portrayed in a negative way in movies, television, advertisements and other public means of communication.
