Don brings a vast array of experience from his 31-year EMS career. He worked for the Chicago Fire Department for more than 30 years as an EMT, Paramedic, EMS Chief Officer and Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner for EMS. He retired from CFD in 2007 and is an active licensed EMT-P in the state of Illinois. He also holds a state of Illinois Lead Instructor Approval for EMS Training Programs in Illinois.
 
Don’s public safety background includes being an Adjunct Faculty Member of the National Fire Academy under DHS and a Fellow with the Institute of Medicine of Chicago.
 
Don’s career accomplishments include receiving the 2003 NAEMT Laerdal EMT-P of the Year Award; the 2002 IAFC James O. Page EMS Chief of the Year Award; and the 2002 EMS Magazine Paramedic of the Year Award. He also received the 2006 Presidents Volunteer Services Award and the 2004 National Institute for Urban Search and Rescue Certificate of Excellence.
 
Don holds a BA in Allied Health Education, a master’s in Management, and a doctorate in Public Safety Technologies from National-Louis and Mellen Universities. He is also a former president of the Chicago Fire Paramedics Association.
