NAEMT’s board of directors completed a draft of a Policy Platform and Strategic Plan during their annual Mid-Year Meeting, which was held in March in New Orleans. During two days of lively debate, the board discussed current issues facing the EMS industry, the particular concerns of EMS personnel and the role of NAEMT in serving its members and the industry at large.
“It’s important for us to know what issues are important to us and how we’re going address them,” said President Ken Bouvier. “These are important times for EMS and as NAEMT continues to grow, we have an important role to play in speaking out for EMS personnel. I personally want this organization to have a clear sense of direction and these documents will help guide us. The Policy Platform clarifies our stand on the important issues facing EMS and the Strategic Plan spells out what we’re going to do.”

Bouvier also said that the process of strategic planning is ongoing. “This is where we are now. But these documents will continue to change as we reflect the needs of our members and EMS everywhere.”
The drafts of the policy platform and strategic plan are being review by the board members and will be finalized in the coming months and posted on NAEMT’s Web site.
In other business, the board of directors heard reports from Divisions and Committees, signed the final check to pay off entirely the organization’s old debt, approved appointments to various committees and liaison positions, and approved plans for celebrating NAEMT’s 30th anniversary this year.
During the meeting the Board of Directors and guests of NAEMT were hosted for a authentic Cajun dinner at Westwego Volunteer Fire Department where President Ken Bouvier has volunteered for more than 30 years.
