NAEMT Supports Reauthorization of EMSC Program

NAEMT is one of the organizations supporting the reauthorization of the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) program.

In January, Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-HI) introduced S. 60, the Wakefield Act, which is a basic five-year reauthorization of the EMSC program. The program’s authorization expired in September 2005 and was not included in President Bush’s proposed budget.

The bill is named for the family of Sen. Kent Conrad’s (D-ND) former chief of staff, Mary Wakefield, who lost her brother and two of his children in a motor vehicle accident. Her nephew narrowly survived, due in part to the excellent emergency care that he received.
