BYLAWS DEBATED, OFFICERS ELECTED AT NAEMT ANNUAL MEETING

NAEMT members will be represented by a President-Elect and one additional Board member next year. This change, as well as a name change for the leadership body from Executive Council to Board of Directors, was approved by NAEMT members who were in attendance at the Annual Meeting in September in Las Vegas.

A controversial proposal that would have permitted members in each state to vote directly for representatives to the NAEMT Board of Governors failed to gain the two/thirds majority necessary to pass. Under the existing bylaws, affiliated state EMS associations have the right to select their own NAEMT governors. In some states, this selection process may involve a vote of the membership; in others, it may not. NAEMT members in non-affiliated states may elect representatives to the Board of Governors "upon petition of a percentage of Active Members of each such state, such percentage determined by a 75 percent vote of the Board of Governors present at a duly called meeting." President Roquemore will be directing a committee to look at this issue in the coming year and strengthen the number and quality of interactions with state affiliate EMS associations.

The NAEMT Board of Governors also met in Las Vegas, where members cast their votes for the 2003-2004 Board of Directors (formerly the Executive Council). The new Board of Directors will be made up of President John Roquemore (completing his second year of a two-year term of office), Past President Nathan Williams, Vice President Ken Bouvier, Treasurer Jerry Johnston, Secretary Patrick Moore (all of whom ran unopposed), and Board of Directors Members Connie Meyer, Paul Maniscalco, Robert Loftus and Richard Ellis.
