The mission of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians is to represent and serve Emergency Medical Services personnel through advocacy, educational programs and research.
NAEMT has developed a Legislative Reference Guide to assist NAEMT officers, governors and members in their quest to educate federal, state and local elected officials about EMS issues and to promote the positions in the NAEMT Policy Platform.
The NAEMT Legislative Reference Guide is a compendium of valuable information about the federal legislative process. It includes sections on how to become politically active, how to effectively communicate your views on Capitol Hill, how to call on elected officials, tips on writing your Congressional representatives and the role of the legislative staff. It also includes important terminology, contacts and references.
The Guide also offers an overview of how the federal budget process works and how a bill becomes a law. It also offers important tips on how you can use grassroots lobbying as an effective tool to let your representatives know how you feel about EMS issues.

NAEMT encourages all its leaders and members to read the NAEMT Legislative Reference Guide and to use it as a foundation for reaching out to elected officials. The Association and the entire EMS profession needs the support of each and every EMT and paramedic to promote legislation that is good for EMS responder health and safety, quality of work life and future opportunities within the profession.
