The NAEMT Virtual Refresher series is designed to provide EMS training officers and educators with concise courses that meet NREMT’s national recertification requirements in accordance with the National Continued Competency Program (NCCP). There are three refresher courses in the series: paramedic (30 hours), AEMT (25 hours), and EMT (20 hours). Paramedics, AEMTs and EMTs in the United States may take the refresher course for their certification/licensure level. These courses may also be offered in other countries to prehospital providers at the commensurate training level.
The NAEMT virtual refresher courses are built from NAEMT’s evidence-based continuing education courses, including Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC), Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS), and EMS Safety. Applicable portions of these courses have been incorporated into the schedule of each refresher course. The refresher courses are designed to be taught virtually, using online platforms such as GoToMeeting, Zoom, Webex, Skype, or other virtual instructor-led teaching (VILT) platforms.
NAEMT Training Centers approved to conduct at least one of the following NAEMT courses – PHTLS, AMLS, EPC, or GEMS – are permitted to offer these refresher courses. Approved NAEMT instructors for one or more of these courses are approved to conduct these refresher courses. Approved instructors are responsible for teaching refresher course content as outlined in the course schedules. Please note that NAEMT instructors may only teach content related to their scope of practice per local protocols.
The instructor-to-student ratio for the refresher courses has been set at 1:20 to ensure that students receive an engaging educational experience.
All NAEMT continuing education courses are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) and recognized by the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT).
