Victims of Haiti Earthquake Need Your Help

Jan 15, 2010

We at NAEMT are deeply saddened by the devastation that has occurred in Haiti as a result of the recent earthquake. While the full impact of this disaster is still unknown, Tuesday’s 7.0 magnitude earthquake left Haiti’s capital city of Port-au-Prince in ruins, and death toll estimates range from 30,000 to over 100,000. Our sympathy and prayers go out to the people of Haiti, especially to the families of those who lost their lives.

Monetary donations are the most effective and efficient means of providing support for a disaster of this magnitude. You can text “HAITI” to “90999” to automatically make a donation of $10 to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts. The amount will be charged to your cell phone bill. Or you can make a donation to the Red Cross at www.redcross.org or the Salvation Army at www.salvationarmy.org.

To register your skills and experience for a possible volunteer opportunity, go to the Center for International Disaster Information's registration page. FEMA offers additional information about donations and volunteering during disaster response on their web site.

Families of Americans living in Haiti can contact the State Department at 1-888-407-4747 for information.
