The Government Accountability Office (GAO) continues to distribute cost surveys to a list of randomly selected ambulance service providers. If your organization receives a request from the GAO to participate in the process, please complete and return the survey in a timely fashion.
As part of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act, Congress directed the GAO to update its report entitled Ambulance Providers: Costs and Expected Medicare Margins Vary Greatly (GAO-07-383) from May 2007. To accomplish this task, the GAO will issue another cost survey to obtain recent data from a random sample of ambulance service providers. NAEMT supports the GAO in its efforts to update its ambulance cost report and we encourage those ambulance service providers selected as part of the sample to complete and return the survey to the GAO.
Congress will use the findings of the updated GAO report to determine future Medicare ambulance reimbursement levels. So if your organization is selected as part of the survey, please complete and return it in a timely matter. Please also direct any of your questions about the survey to the GAO.
