NAEMT Revises Code of Ethics for EMS Practitioners

Jul 18, 2013

The NAEMT Board of Directors recently approved several revisions to the professional Code of Ethics for EMS Practitioners originally written by Charles B. Gillespie, M.D., and adopted by the NAEMT in 1978. President Don Lundy appointed a special committee to review and update the code. Serving on the committee were: Immediate Past President Connie Meyer, Chair, Jim Judge, Skip Kirkwood, Jim Slattery and John Todaro.

“We had requests from members to consider updating the Code of Ethics to include current terminology for EMS Practitioners and references to current communication methods,” says Committee Chair and Immediate Past President Connie Meyer. “We were also fortunate to work with the original author, Dr. Charles B. Gillespie, to update the document with his approval.”

The proposed revisions were reviewed and approved by the NAEMT Board on June 15, 2013.  View the revised Code of Ethics for EMS Practitioners here.
