Veteran's Day: A Day of Gratitude and Remembrance

Nov 11, 2014

We are happy to share with you reflections from a Veteran who continues to faithfully serve those he proudly served with...

A few weeks ago, I was walking down a hallway in a large military hospital. As I walked down that corridor, I met four guys with artificial limbs. I smiled, nodded and said, "Howdy!" to each one of them. They were evenly spaced - about like some guys coming back from the club and seeing a 2LT (second lieutenant) coming towards them. Without fail, each one smiled and returned my greeting. I got to talking with another amputee while waiting for a friend and it was apparent he was excited to be here. His zeal for life was evident and understandable. He said most people look at him and their faces say "how horrible." He smiled and said, "but most of the Veterans... most fellow Soldiers... they understand. They KNOW I am happy to be here and that every day is special."

This Veterans Day, pause a moment and give thanks for all of those who sacrificed so much for our country... Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, wives, husbands, sons, daughters, moms, dads, siblings... and those still serving here and around the world. From the elderly WWII Veteran sitting on the end of the pew in church on Sunday morning, to the Vietnam Veteran that rode by on an old Triumph... and from the Korean War Veteran volunteering at the polls to the Desert Storm Veteran at the office... for all of the young men and women returning from the current theaters to the Special Operations forces in countries around the world - THANK YOU.  Happy Veterans Day. Well done.
