Scott Matin Reports On The International Roundtable On Community Paramedicine Conference

Sep 08, 2014

Scott A. Matin, MBA, NREMT-P, vice president of clinical, education & business services for MONOC Mobile Health Services and NAEMT Board member represented NAEMT at the 10th Annual International Roundtable on Community Paramedicine (IRCP) Conference, September 2-5, in Reno, Nevada. He has the following report on the conference.

Keeping with IRCP’s mission to promote an international exchange of information, the conference drew emergency medical and other knowledgeable experts from around the world. Presenters reinforced the benefit of sharing information and experiences with global neighbors, and emphasized that the open dialogue and wisdom has helped move community paramedicine programs forward more rapidly. Committees, email lists, organization publications and the like, offer great a opportunity for sharing information with a broad group.

Another topic addressed was program funding. While grants typically provide base funding for pilot community paramedicine programs, EMS providers and other stakeholders must look to a sustainable plan, which demonstrates that the program reduces overall cost of care. Consensus for the long term is that community paramedicine programs must be sustainable, scalable and replicable, in order to make a lasting impact.
